Stay Connected Globally
My first big travel adventure was in 2018, when I travelled for over 3 months to Australia, New Zealand, Singapore, Hong Kong, Malaysia, Vietnam & Cambodia.
Keeping in contact was a little more complex, confusing, and hit-or-miss back then, as I had to use a variety of regional shop-bought physical SIM cards, hotel Wi-Fi, or go without coverage, so I often had to cross my fingers that things would work out. It was a hassle having to buy and change SIM cards every time I landed in a new country, and that's not what you need when travelling.
The fear of losing my phone's physical SIM was always at the back of my mind, even though I knew I had zipped it away in my purse.
Stay connected with the Holafly Asia eSIM

When I returned to Asia in 2023, visiting Singapore and Malaysia, I knew there had to be a better way to stay in touch while on the move. I needed to find out which company offered the best eSIM in Asia.
After extensive research and comparing data packages and pricing based on genuine Trustpilot reviews, Holafly emerged as the top-rated provider of eSIMs for frequent travellers. I settled on purchasing the Holafly Unlimited Data Asia eSIM for 30 days from their Regional eSIMs menu.
I liked that the Holafly Regional eSIM enabled me to purchase a digital SIM card for a specific region — Asia, in my case — and pay only for the number of days I would be visiting. However, if you plan to travel long term, several data plans are available, with monthly or discounted yearly rates.

Setting up a Holafly eSIM
As I am a bit behind with technology, I found the installation pages and videos for my iPhone 12 very helpful. There are also Android instructions and help videos.
These are the three easy options to install the eSIM:
- Scan the QR Code 📸
- Manual Installation 🛠️
- One-Button Install for iOS 17.4 or above
Unfortunately, when I tried to install my Holafly eSIM for the first time, I still got it wrong, but Holafly's 24/7 multilingual support chat had me covered. Although AI responses are being used in chats more frequently these days, I appreciated being able to chat directly with a Holafly support team member rather than a computer. Within a couple of minutes, they had me back on the right path.
Upon landing in Singapore, I activated my Holafly Asia eSIM. After that, I never worried about being out of coverage or about being unable to contact drivers, hotels and tour guides during my stay. I then spent four weeks travelling around Malaysia. In that time, I can't remember ever not being able to get online when I needed to. I was always able to grab my phone, upload a photo of something I had just seen, book a tour, or keep family members updated on my whereabouts.
Using Holafly for the second time
I returned to Asia in 2025 and headed to Indonesia. The lure of active volcanoes, temples, rice paddies, and beautiful beaches felt like the perfect escape. I spent six incredible weeks there, experiencing all of the above and more across Java, Bali, Lombok, and Flores.
My usual travel essentials came with me: passport, Wise money card, mobile phone, and of course, my Holafly eSIM. I no longer had to worry about how I would stay connected throughout such a varied and sometimes remote journey. I had Holafly by my side.
Because Holafly eSIMs are easy to set up, this time around, it couldn't have been simpler. Once I had placed my order, I received a QR code in my laptop's inbox. I scanned it with my camera, installed the eSIM on my iPhone, following the step-by-step instructions provided by Holafly, and I was ready to go. Knowing I would not need to queue at the airport or find a shop to purchase a local SIM, and that there would be no fiddly packaging or pin tools to deal with once I arrived at my destination, was reassuring.
The moment I entered the terminal at my destination airport, I activated the eSIM. It literally took a couple of minutes, and I was fully connected.
A bonus for me was that I could keep my own WhatsApp number, so that I could keep in touch with all my contacts as if I were at home. I was also able to send and receive text messages via iMessage.

Is Holafly Worth It?
Using my Holafly eSIM in Asia was definitely worth it and here's why:
Ease of Use: Set-up took less than 10 minutes, and I didn't need to remove my physical SIM card.
Personalised Day Plans: you can personalise exactly how many days you need, from 1 up to 90 days, so you only pay for what you really need.
Unlimited Data: With the Unlimited Data eSIMs, I never had to worry about my usage, which is a real advantage when uploading travel content daily.
Consistent Coverage: Even in rural or remote areas, I often had at least a basic signal. More than once, it saved me during last-minute planning.
No Need for Local SIMs: I bypassed the hassle of buying physical SIM cards at every new location or waiting in long queues upon arrival.
Safe & Secure: With Holafly, I could access banking apps and personal emails without connecting to unsecured public Wi-Fi networks.
Hotspot Tethering: If, like me, you travel with others, it's easy to keep them connected too. With Holafly, I was able to share my data with my husband by turning my phone into a hotspot, all without worrying about roaming fees.
If you want everyone to have their own connection, grab an eSIM for each travel companion and stay online wherever your adventures take you.

Would I Use Holafly Again?
Absolutely. Asia is a geographically and logistically complex continent, so having one eSIM that covered all the places I visited made a big difference. It took the worry out of travelling, because it gave me internet connection when it was essential. For me, Holafly provides the best eSIM for keeping in touch internationally. A Holafly eSIM will definitely be coming with me on my next trip to Thailand, and, looking ahead, it will be with me when I travel to New Zealand and South America.
There were a few brief moments when the signal dropped, but that's to be expected in more remote areas. What impressed me was how quickly and seamlessly the signal returned, and how little overall stress it caused.
Holafly allowed me to stay spontaneous. I was able to book activities, use Google Maps to navigate, book restaurants, access my social media platforms, write blog posts and keep in touch with my loved ones — all without being tied to public Wi-Fi zones or worrying about how much data I had used. Perfect!
