Where is Secrets Resort, Playa Blanca?

Secrets Playa Blanca Costa Mujeres' location is about 12 miles north of Cancun, in a quieter, more secluded stretch of coastline that offers a more intimate setting than Cancun's busier hotel zone. The resort feels wonderfully private, yet it's close enough to Cancun International Airport (about a one-hour drive) to make travel convenient.

Address: Carretera Punta Sam, Manzana 2 Lote 10, 77400 Quintana Roo, Mexico

How old is Secrets Playa Blanca Costa Mujeres?

Secrets Playa Blanca Costa Mujeres opened in February 2024 and is the newest property in the Secrets portfolio. It offers guests modern rooms, fresh amenities, and a sleek, stylish design. While the landscaping is still maturing, the property is beautiful and well-maintained, and in time, it will become even more lush and tropical.

What's the check-in procedure at Secrets Playa Blanca

Check-in at Secrets PBCM is an experience in itself. The moment we arrived, we were welcomed into the open-air lobby with a glass of champagne in hand.

The elevated lobby terrace offers stunning views of the property, the pools, and even a glimpse of the ocean in the distance.

Our room wasn't ready until around 3:00, but that gave us plenty of time to explore and access all the resort's facilities, even without our room key.

They kept our bags safe at check-in so we could wander through the resort's stylish boutiques and shops. Then, we went to Seaside Grill for lunch, where we enjoyed a delicious meal with a gorgeous ocean view right from our table. It was the perfect way to settle into vacation mode without feeling like we were waiting for our room.

Travel Tip: Pack a small bag with your swimsuit, flip-flops, and essentials to hit the pool or the beach while waiting for your room!

Sunrise at Secrets

One of the most magical experiences at Secrets Playa Blanca was waking up early to watch the sunrise over the ocean, which painted the sky in shades of pink, orange, and gold.

Some of the best spots for this breathtaking view were the lounge chairs or Bali beds on the beach, the Preferred Club infinity pool, the social pool, and the main infinity pool. Each location offered a different perspective, but was equally peaceful and romantic.

Most mornings, I grabbed a coffee from Coco Café and a small bite to eat (Coco Café is the only restaurant open then) and settled into a Bali bed on the beach, wrapped in a soft breeze and the sound of the waves.

On another day, we opted for the Preferred Club pool, where we floated in the still water, watching the colours reflect off the infinity edge. And if you prefer an elevated view, the lobby terrace is another fantastic spot to catch the sunrise, offering a panoramic view of the entire property waking up to the day.

For couples, these quiet moments are the perfect way to start the day together - just you, the ocean, and the promise of another perfect day in paradise.

Secrets Playa Blanca Beach

The beach at Secrets PBCM is pristine, with soft white sand and crystal-clear waters. Kayaking, paddleboarding, and snorkelling excursions are included in the resort rate, giving couples plenty of opportunities to get out on the water together. For those looking for something extra, additional water experiences, such as jet ski rentals and private catamaran tours, are available to purchase.

One major concern for many Caribbean travellers is sargassum seaweed. While you'll see some here, this particular stretch of Costa Mujeres is known for having significantly less than other beaches in the region. The shoreline was well-maintained and clean during my stay, making beach days even more enjoyable.

Beach Walks

Another aspect I love about this beach is that it's lined with resorts, but they are graciously spaced apart, so you can take a long, romantic walk on the sand without feeling crowded. Unlike some busier destinations, there's plenty of space to spread out, whether lounging under a palapa (the traditional Mexican thatched roof umbrella), renting a Bali bed, or just strolling along the surf hand in hand.

Landscaping & Wildlife at Secrets

The landscaping is still maturing since the property is newer, but I still found it beautiful. Lush greenery, palm trees, and tropical flowers frame the pools and pathways, and I even spotted an iguana and plenty of birds during my stay.

Swimming Pools at Secrets

There are four pools, each offering a different vibe:

Main Infinity Pool – Overlooks the beach and has a swim-up bar.

Jungle Pool: The most peaceful, romantic pool, surrounded by greenery.

We spent an entire day in a rented Bali bed by the jungle pool, which was the perfect couple's retreat. We also ended our trip with a sunset on a Bali bed on the beach, a peaceful and intimate way to close out our romantic getaway.

Dining at Secrets Playa Blanca Costa Mujeres Restaurants

Dining at Secrets Playa Blanca is a romantic, elevated experience, offering a mix of fine dining and casual options. Keep in mind that all fine-dining restaurants require men to wear trousers, collared shirts, and closed-toe shoes. Women should opt for dressy casual attire; beach cover-ups are not allowed.

Fine Dining

Bordeaux (French Cuisine) – My Personal Favourite

Bordeaux transported me back to my first trip to France as a teenager. The escargot was divine, perfectly cooked, and drenched in butter and garlic. The atmosphere here is elegant, making it an ideal spot for a romantic, intimate dinner.

Portofino (Italian Cuisine) – A Close Second Favourite

If you love Italian food, Portofino is a must. The rack of lamb was tender and full of flavour, and the overall ambience was perfect for a cosy, romantic meal. This was my second favourite restaurant at the resort, and I'd happily return for another meal.

Himitsu (Asian Cuisine & Teppanyaki)

One of the standout features of Himitsu is its beautiful outdoor patio, which offers a fantastic sunset view. I really enjoyed watching the red and purple hues spill across the sky while savouring fresh and flavourful sushi and Vietnamese rolls. If you're looking for a great place to watch the sunset while enjoying a meal, this is it. The Teppanyaki table is the only dining spot at this property that requires a reservation.

Travel Tip: Restaurant booking starts at midnight on the day of dining. You have to call right at midnight if you want to experience this interactive dining option. Sometimes, they have last-minute cancellations, so you can always check for openings.

El Patio (Mexican Cuisine)

Unfortunately, I didn't get to dine at El Patio, so I can't personally recommend any dishes. However, I've heard from other guests that it's an excellent choice for those seeking an authentic Mexican dining experience.

Casual Dining Options

The casual dining restaurants are open-air and conveniently located near the infinity pools and social pool area, creating a relaxed, laid-back atmosphere. The dress code is more relaxed, but men must wear shirts with sleeves (short or long) to dine.

Seaside Grill: Perfect for a casual yet delicious meal with ocean views.

Barefoot Grill: – A great grab-and-go option for quick bites near the pool.

Oceana: A casual seafood restaurant with a relaxed, breezy ambience.

One thing I loved about the casual dining options was how easy it was to enjoy great food without having to change out of my swimsuit. Sitting near the infinity pools and social areas, enjoying a meal with the sound of the ocean in the background, was among the most relaxing moments of the trip.

For a memorable, romantic experience, you can book a private candlelit dinner for two. A Bali bed is transformed into a private dining space with soft lighting and an intimate setup. This is an unforgettable way to celebrate a special occasion or indulge in a truly intimate couples' dining experience.

Resort Bars & Drink Quality

Secrets Playa Blanca offers a variety of bars and lounges, each with a unique vibe. This makes it easy to find the perfect spot for a relaxing cocktail or a lively evening drink. I found the drinks to be high quality, well-balanced, and generously poured without being overdone.

My go-to favourites were Bloody Marys, Piña Coladas, and Blue Hawaiians. I also loved the Mimosa and Bloody Mary bar at the Market Café buffet, where I could make my drink exactly how I liked it.

Bars For All Moods

Barefoot Grill Bar: This spot, between the two infinity pools, is perfect for grabbing a quick drink while lounging poolside. It also offers snacks and light food options.

Desires Music Lounge & Theatre Bar: Found near the spa and theatre section, Desires hosts fun evening events like silent dance nights and is an excellent spot for late-night entertainment.

Sugar Reef: Positioned next to the jungle pool, Sugar Reef has a pool table, a ping pong table, and TVs for watching sports. It's also the designated smoking area, so if you have a smoker with you, this is the place to go.

Rendezvous: This circular bar is next to the nighttime dining areas and offers cosy seating options, including swinging couches and fire pits. It's a great place to unwind before or after dinner. You'll also find art workshops like painting classes, hosted here.

Barracuda Beach Bar: This bar on the beach features swings instead of stools, making it a fun, relaxed spot to sip a drink while enjoying the ocean breeze.

Bars for Preferred Club Guests

Preferred Club Beach Bar: Nestled among the Bali beds on the beach, this exclusive bar is a great spot to grab a drink without leaving the comfort of your cabana.

Whether sipping a Piña Colada on a beach swing at Barracuda, relaxing by the fire pits at Rendezvous, or enjoying the peaceful jungle pool swim-up bar, I always found a drinking spot that perfectly matched my mood.

Themed Nights & Resort Activities

Instead of traditional theme parties, the resort hosts events such as silent dance parties, fiesta nights, and market nights. The silent dance party was a unique and fun experience!

You can check the Hyatt Inclusive App events calendar to see what's happening while you're there.

Costa Mujeres Sightseeing Tours

If you can bear to leave the comfort of the resort, you might like to take part in an organised tour of some of the region's sightseeing spots. There are plenty of activities, and the ones featured here are among the most popular excursions.

Fitness Center

The gym at Secrets Playa Blanca is conveniently located next to the spa, making it easy to pair a workout with a post-exercise relaxation session.

The facility has treadmills, elliptical machines, stationary bikes, weight machines, and a rowing machine. I appreciated the hydration station stocked with water and fresh fruit, which was refreshing after a good workout. Whether you want to keep up with your fitness routine or just fit in a quick session before lounging by the pool, the gym has everything you need to stay active while on vacation.
